Rackspace offers new cloud computing data management services

Web hosting and cloud computing company Rackspace announced Tuesday that it will offer new SaaS-based services for server backup, online file storage and enterprise content management starting next month.
The new services will include Rackspace Cloud Drive, an online file storage application, Rackspace Server Backup, an online server backup application, and Hosted Sharepoint, a web-based version of Microsoft's enterprise content management software.
"More and more businesses are moving their critical applications to the cloud, and we can help them to achieve that goal," said Lew Moorman, president of Rackspace Hosting's cloud division.
Developers said that offering these services in the cloud will allow customers will to spend less time managing information technology services for server backup, file storage and enterprise content management and more time concentrating on core business objectives.
Rackspace's new SaaS-based services enter a growing market as an increasing number of IT departments shift resources to the cloud. A recent survey by network security company Shavlik Technologies found that 58 percent of IT managers and staffers are considering adoption of cloud computing services.
