EDL Solutions:

Hosted solutions facilitate work from home arrangements

Updated: 2009-05-14

Computing solutions hosted in the cloud have increasingly been touted as cost-saving technology ideal for a company on a budget.

A new study however, shows that companies could save money in other ways by implementing cloud computing technologies.

According to a study by Citrix Online called Worldwide Workplace: The Web Commuting Imperative, employees are willing to sacrifice some of their pay for the ability to work from home or another remote location.

One in five respondents said they are willing to give up 5 percent of their salary for the ability to work remotely one or two days a week.

Citrix Online reports that women in the enterprise are 50 percent more likely than men in ownership positions to permit web commuting or working remotely. But both men and women, employees and management agree that a breakaway from "rigid office hours" is an even bigger benefit to remote working than saving money on transportation costs.

A number of technology insiders are also touting cloud computing technology that facilitates work from home arrangements as a way that companies are going green.
